Tridoshic, Especially Vata Pacifying
Making almond milk is surprisingly easy! And I have found that I love the taste so much more than store bought. Almonds are nourishing to all the doshas, especially when they are soaked and have the skins removed. They are also nourishing to Vata dosha, which helps to calm the nervous system.
I am fortunate enough to have a Vitamix, which makes the blending super quick, but you can use any blender you have as well.
Ingredients
- 1 cup almonds
- 3 cups water
- 2 dates, pitted
- Cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla bean (optional)
Directions
- Soak 1 cup of almonds in enough water for all to be fully submerged overnight.
- If you don’t have time or did not soak overnight, boil water and then pour over the almonds in a heat safe bowl for 20 minutes.
- Remove the skins from the almonds by rubbing them between your fingers. Discard the skins and the water.
- Add the almonds and 3 cups of water to the blender. You can add your dates, and 1/2 tsp cinnamon and/or cardamom, and/or some vanilla if desired! If using a Vitamix, start at the lowest speed, and gradually increase over ~60 seconds.
- Blend thoroughly.
- Strain the milk through a cheesecloth or milk straining cloth.
Enjoy!
